About the Role

As a Senior Transport Planner, you will work in tandem with principal planners to support Project Directors, who will act as your line management. You will be responsible for the day-to-day technical work on projects, producing reports and undertaking some project administration as necessary.  Your role will include work on site, managing audits and site reviews, attending public consultations, and attending pre-application consultation meetings.

Requirements

This role would suit a transport planning professional who has:

  • At least 4 years’ experience working in in the transport development planning or development control work area.
  • Knowledge of the planning system and transport-related matters, including creating Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Environmental Statements.
  • A practical knowledge of relevant highway and cycling/walking design standards, guidelines and processes and ability to appraise site layouts.
  • An understanding and skills in highway capacity modelling, preferably some use of PICADY, ARCADY, LinSIG etc
  • Competent on TRICS and methods to distribute and growth traffic data
  • Experience of preparing robust, visually engaging supporting material using QGIS or similar mapping/illustration software (sketches, drawings)
  • Good writing and numeracy skills
  • Interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients, and officers
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with ability to work within deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • A basic practical knowledge of project management and project administration, such as budgeting, preparing quotes, quality assurance and/or basic review of transport documents.

Some practical ability with AutoCAD and other associated Autodesk design software (such as AutoTrack) is desirable but not critical to this role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Helping develop multi-modal access strategies and designs for all kinds of development and public sector transport projects
  • Site visits, corridor/area walking and cycling assessments, participation in public consultations
  • Preparing technical notes and reports, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Delivery and Service Plans and other assessments such as Active Travel Zone assessment
  • Undertaking capacity or other technical analysis such as PICADY, ARCADY, LINSIG
  • Interrogating designs through swept path analysis and application of design standards
  • Initial concept / feasibility studies for large masterplan sites
  • Engaging with the design team and confident in communicating with clients
  • Supporting Project Directors with workflow and project delivery
