About the Role

As a Consultant Transport Planner, you will undertake technical tasks to deliver projects, produce documents, and support your team in producing high-quality and accurate work. You will report to the Project Director, who will act as your line manager, and support you in your career development.

Your role will include work on site, undertaking audits and site reviews, attending public consultations and attending pre-application consultation meetings to support senior staff as needed.

Requirements

This role would suit a graduate with or without a masters, with work experience in our field.

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in in the transport development planning.
  • Knowledge of the planning system and transport-related matters, including Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and Environmental Statements.
  • A basic knowledge of relevant highway and cycling/walking design standards, guidelines and processes and ability to appraise site layouts.
  • An understanding and some skills in highway capacity modelling, preferably some use of PICADY, ARCADY, LinSIG
  • Competent on TRICS and methods to distribute and growth traffic data
  • Experience of preparing robust, visually engaging supporting material using QGIS or similar mapping/illustration software (sketches, drawings).
  • Good writing and numeracy skills.
  • Interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively and professionally with the design team, clients, and officers.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with ability to work within deadlines.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, including Excel.

Experience of using AutoCAD to undertake basic linework tasks and other associated Autodesk design software (such as AutoTrack) is desirable but not a requirement for this role.

Key responsibilities:

  • Helping develop multi-modal access strategies and designs for all kinds of development and public sector transport projects
  • Site visits, corridor/area walking and cycling assessments, participation in public consultations
  • Preparing technical notes and reports, Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, Delivery and Service Plans and other assessments
  • Undertaking capacity or other technical analysis such as PICADY, ARCADY, LINSIG,
  • Interrogating designs through swept path analysis and application of design standards
  • Initial concept / feasibility studies for large masterplan sites
