Harrogate Borough Council approved plans for a new Tesco store on a former gasworks site in February 2023. The scheme will provide over 3,600sqm of floor space, create over 100 jobs and includes a petrol filling station and 209 car parking spaces. Tesco will also provide a contribution towards a new bus service and implement new highway infrastructure.
The area of Harrogate where the store will be located has been a major hub for housing growth through local plan allocations with multiple developments coming forward over recent years and shoppers using the congested Skipton Road to access supermarkets located mostly on the other side of Harrogate.
